BALTIMORE, MD - The No.15 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its seventh straight match with a 9-0 win over Haverford Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords fall to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the conference with the loss.
Hopkins won all three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) won their seventh straight match, beating Alexandra Glickman and Margot Elton at first. Junior Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and freshman Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) won their 11th match of the season, beating Jaclyn Porter and Fumiko Shogase 8-2 at third. Freshmen Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) and Arthika Chandramohan (San Marino, CA/San Marino) were trailing 1-0 at second doubles when Karen Lavi and Sarah Loeffler retired.
Hopkins then won all six singles matches to take the match 9-0. No.11 Matava improved to 12-5 on the season with a straight sets win over Glickman at first singles. At second, No.16 Bhamidipati won her seventh straight match and improved to 12-3 overall with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lavi. No.21 Schubert won her 12th match this season, beating Loeffler in straight sets at third.
Gulnik also won in straight sets, beating Porter at fourth singles. She improves to 11-6 this season. Senior Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) beat Elton 8-1 at fifth for her fourth straight win. No.48 Berlinghof won her fifth straight and 10th match overall, beating Shogase 8-3 at sixth.
The Blue Jays return to action on Sunday, April 8 when they travel to face the Salisbury Sea Gulls. The match is set to begin at noon.
