APPLETON, WI - Trinity College survived a late rally to hand the Johns Hopkins baseball team an 8-5 loss on Sunday night at the College World Series. Hopkins (40-7) saw a six-game win streak come to an end and will now face either Adrian or Wisconsin-Whitewater in an elimination game tomorrow afternoon.

Trinity (44-0) wasted little time in getting its offense going as it plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning. James Wood had an RBI single that plated two during the frame and Sean Killeen had an RBI single as well.

The Blue Jays got one back in the top of the second as senior third baseman Todd Emr (Westwood, NJ/Saddle River Day) led off with a double and came around to score on senior catcher Tony Margve's (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) single to center field.

Trinity tallied single runs in the third and fourth innings to open up a 5-1 advantage. The Bantams added to their lead in the seventh as Killeen drew a two-out walk and scored on Kent Graham's triple to right center.

The Blue Jays finally got things going in the eighth as sophomore right fielder Brian Youchak (Pittsburgh, PA/Vincentian Academy) drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Emr's infield single with two outs. Senior shortstop Jonas Fester (Dallas, TX/Syosset (NY)) drove in Youchak with a single to right field and senior DH Jon Solomon (Fairfax, VA/Riverdale Baptist) plated Emr with his single. Margve's double to right center scored Fester and made it a 6-5 game.

Trinity would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it an 8-5 game.

Hopkins would get one on in the top of the ninth but was unable to get plate the run and Trinity claimed the victory.

Senior Brian Duddie (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) took the loss as he surrendered five runs in three plus innings of work. Chandler Barnard picked up his eleventh win of the season as he gave up five runs in 7.2 innings of work.

Emr continued to hit well for the Blue Jays as he finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Margve was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and senior first baseman Matt Benchener (Newtown, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) recorded the 100th hit of his career with a double in the fifth.

The Blue Jays will look to avoid elimination tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. CT.
