BALTIMORE, MD - The same day the Johns Hopkins women's team earned its highest national ranking ever, it extended its Centennial Conference win streak to 23 with a 9-0 win over visiting Dickinson. The eighth-ranked Blue Jays improve to 4-3 on the season, with a 3-0 mark in the conference. The Red Devils slip to 6-5 on the season with a 2-2 slate in the Centennial.
Hopkins swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead early. Freshman Courtney Boger (Doylestown, PA/Doylestown) and sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) won 8-2 at third doubles over Carla Cox and Alex Bybel. At second, junior Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) beat Kat Hood and Hana Thomson, 8-1. Senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) closed out doubles with an 8-1 win at first over Joelle Nitzberg and Sarah Woodward. The win for Matava was the 50th of her career in doubles.
In singles action, Hopkins swept all six matches in straight sets to take the match. Dwyer won at fourth over Leigh Oczkowski without dropping a game for her eighth win of the season. Matava then won at third, beating Thomson 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Vanessa Charubhumi (East Elmhurst, NY/Stuyvesant) improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at sixth over Bybel. Boger then took a 6-1, 6-3 win at fifth over Hood to improve to 6-1. Freshman Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) won her third straight, beating Woodward 6-0, 6-4 at second. Junior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at first over Nitzberg. The win for Bhamidipati was the 50th of her career, making her just the second player in program history to reach the milestone.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 4 as Ursinus visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
