LANCASTER, PA - The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rolled its win streak to six on Saturday, posting its sixth straight shutout in a 9-0 win at Franklin & Marshall. The Blue Jays improve to 7-3 on the season, with a 6-0 record in the Centennial Conference. The Diplomats slip to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
In doubles action, Hopkins dropped just two games en route to a sweep of all three matches. At first, senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) won 8-1 over Erica Wood and Kelsey Tylus. Junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) did not drop a game in beating Dana Russo and Valeri Harteg at second. While at third, freshmen Courtney Boger (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) and Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) won 8-1 over Shannon Littlefield and Nicole Martino.
In singles action, Warren did not drop a game at first in picking her up team-best 17th win of the season. She beat Wood in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Willenborg rallied after dropping the first set to beat Tylus in three sets at second. At third, Matava lost just three games in her 6-2, 6-1 win over Russo. Dwyer did not drop a game, beating Harteg 8-0, at fourth. Berlinghof beat Littlefield at fifth, winning 8-2. And at sixth, Boger won 8-1 over Martino.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 14 as Swarthmore visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match-up is slated to start at 4:00 pm.
