#9 Johns Hopkins Finishes Unbeaten Centennial Conference Season

BALTIMORE, MD - Ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins beat visiting Haverford, 8-1 on Saturday to secure its third straight unbeaten Centennial Conference season. The Blue Jays, who have won 30 straight conference matches, improve to 11-3 overall and 10-0 in the conference. The Fords slip to 9-8 on the season and 7-3 in the conference.

Junior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) put Hopkins on top 1-0 with an 8-1 win at second over Katie Drooyan and Helen Fisun. Junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) then won at third, beating Jaclyn Porter and Fumiko Shogase 8-2. It was their 10th straight win and team best 13th of the season. Senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) then wrapped up doubles play with an 8-3 win at first over Karen Lavi and Katie Wettick.

In singles play, Wettick picked up the Fords only point of the match, beating Warren 6-3, 6-3 at first. Bhamidipati improved to 14-4 on the season, beating Lavi in three sets at second. Freshman Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) won her eighth straight match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at third over Fisun. Matava ran her win streak to 11 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Porter at fourth. Dwyer did not drop a game in her win at fifth over Drooyan. And at sixth, junior Dory Giannos (Darien, CT/Darien) won 6-4, 6-3 over Shogase to close out the match.

Hopkins, the top seed, will host the four-team Centennial Conference Tournament May 2-3 in Baltimore. Hopkins will face off against fourth-seeded Haverford in the semifinals. While Washington and Muhlenberg will square off in the other semifinal. Match times will be announced on Monday. Hopkins is seeking its third straight Centennial Conference Tournament title.
