Junior starter Matt Wiegand went five innings for Hopkins, allowing just three hits. Hopkins had six home runs across eight innings and fell two hits short of tying the conference single-game hit record (29). The Blue Jays have hit 62 homers this season eight short of the Blue Jays' CC record from 2005 (70).
The Blue Jays gave up a pair of long balls to start the game, but got out of the inning with a 2-0 deficit.
Dave Kahn had an infield single to reach, Dan Merzel walked and Todd Emr singled to load the bases in the first for Hopkins. Matthew Bernardi singled to center field in the sixth to plate Dave Garber and Small before Steve Bejsiuk and James Teta loaded the bases to bring up Biner. Biner singled to score another run.
