Johns Hopkins Falls To Salisbury, 24-11

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins baseball team got behind early against Salisbury, but five runs by the Sea Gulls in the fifth inning fueled Salisbury to a 24-11 victory over the Blue Jays in non-conference play. The Sea Gulls (35-6, 15-3 CAC) got a trio of home runs from Andrew Miller, while the Blue Jays (22-14, 13-5 CC) got two from Ryan Biner.

The Sea Gull's five runs in the fifth set off a scoring spree unmatched by Hopkins. Bolyard scored in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Garber. Both teams would plate a pair in the sixth inning for a 14-9 Salisbury lead.

Salisbury came up with six runs on four hits in the sixth to put Hopkins away. A three-RBI home run from Miller in the seventh with two outs keyed the six run inning for the Sea Gulls.

A three-RBI homer by Bill Morton and a single by Mike Celenza to score Andrew Miller in the first inning gave Salisbury a 4-0 lead after one.

Will Evans was hit by pitch before Andrew Miller hit his first home run of the game to score the next two runs for the Sea Gulls as they took a 6-0 lead.

The Blue Jays got the bats going in the second to score five runs, coming within one run after two innings. Ryan Biner was the first to reach, after an error by the second baseman. Brian Youchak and Lee Bolyard each singled to load the bases before Jesse Sikorski sent one over the center field wall for the grand slam. Dave Garber walked, but stole second to bring up John Swarr, who reached on an error by the pitcher for two men on. Dan Merzel came up with an RBI-single to score Garber for the fifth run for JHU.

In the fourth, Randy Boyle doubled to center field to send Will Evans across the plate for a 7-5 Salisbury lead, but Dave Kahn came around to score for the Blue Jays to make it a 7-6 ball game after four.

Ryan Biner opened the eighth inning for JHU with a solo shot, his second of the day for Hopkins' 10th run. Zach Small doubled in the ninth and reached the plate on a single by James Teta for the final JHU run.

Lee Bolyard led the Blue Jays at 4-for-5 with two doubles. Ryan Biner went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI for Hopkins. Andrew Miller had a 4-for-6 outing with three home runs.

The Blue Jays will take the remainder of the week to prepare for Franklin & Marshall as they host the Diplomats on Friday, May 1, for game two of the Centennial Conference Tournament. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
