SWARTHMORE, PA - The 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team knocked off another Centennial Conference opponent on Tuesday, handing host Swarthmore its first conference loss of the season in an 8-1 win. The Blue Jays win their fourth straight match and improve to 9-7 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The Garnet suffer just their fourth loss of the season as they fall to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
In doubles action, Hopkins swept all three matches to take control of the match early with a 3-0 lead. At second, sophomore Courtney Boger (Doylestown, PA/Doylestown) and freshman Nandita Krishnan (Chennai, India/Sishya School) got things going with an 8-2 win over Stephanie Chia and Rosie DuBrin. Freshmen Andrea Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and Ariel Several (Gladwyne, PA/Friends' Central School) then won 8-3 at third over Kelsey Johnson and Luann Cignavitch. Senior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and sophomore Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) wrapped up doubles play with a tight 9-8 win at first over Rachel Wallwork and Emily Rosenblum.
In singles action, Krishnan lost just two games in beating DuBrin at second, 6-2, 6-0 for her team best 14th win of the season. Wallwork then picked up Swarthmore's lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Warren at first. Bhamidipati won her fifth straight match, beating Rosenblum at third, 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match. Berlinghof also won in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-1 at fourth over Johnson. With the match already decided, the matches at fifth and sixth singles were decided in a pro set. Several lost just two games in an 8-2 win at fifth over Alexis Hickman. And at sixth, Boger won 8-3 over Chia.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 17. The Blue Jays will face the Bryn Mawr Owls at 11:00 am and then will square off against the Washington College Shorewomen at 3:00 pm.
