Hopkins Downs Lebanon Valley, 14-5

ANNVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins baseball team launched four home runs in a 14-5 win at Lebanon Valley. After the game was tied at five apiece after two innings, the Blue Jays scored the next nine runs of the game to put away the Dutchmen. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 21-3 while the Dutchmen fall to 14-7.

Hopkins smashed 17 hits while committing two errors while Lebanon Valley had eight hits and three errors.

Both teams scored five runs in the first two innings. Matthew Bernardi (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) scored in the first on a Chris Huisman (Davidsonville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) sacrifice fly. A John Swarr (Radnor, PA/Conestoga) triple and home run by Lee Bolyard (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) started off a four-run second inning for the Blue Jays.

The Dutchmen scored five runs in the second after sending 10 batters to the plate and collecting five hits. Derek Brousseau had a two-RBI single in the inning while Dustin Deibert had an RBI single. Deibert had two base hits in the game. This would be the only inning that the Dutchmen would score.

Dave Kahn (New Hyde Park/Herricks) hit a home run in the third to give Hopkins a 6-5 lead. The Blue Jays would not look back for the rest of the game.

Hopkins plated five runs in the fifth thanks to a lead-off home run by Huisman, an RBI triple by Swarr, and a two run bomb by Stephen Bejsiuk (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown).

Aaron Borenstein (Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro) had an RBI sing in a two-run sixth and Mike Aspegren (Newport Beach, CA/Santa Margarita) had an RBI single in the seventh.

Sam Eagleson (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) earned the win for Hopkins, pitching one inning with two strikeouts. Blake Platt (Munster, IN/Munster) pitched 2.1 shutout innings in relief. Four other Hopkins pitched one shutout inning in relief.

Peter Moro took the loss for the Dutchmen, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings pitched.

Huisman had a home run and a double for two RBIs and two runs scored. Swarr had two triples in the game while Youchak and Tim Rappazzo (Glen Arm, MD/Gilman) each had two hits in the game. Bolyard had three RBIs as well.

The Blue Jays return to action on Friday when they travel to Dickinson to take on the Red Devils in Centennial Conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
