CARLISLE, PA - The 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team wrapped up a six-match road swing with an 8-1 win at Dickinson on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays win their third straight to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Red Devils fall to 3-5 and 1-2 in the conference.
Hopkins took a 3-0 lead after doubles before winning five of six singles matches to claim the 8-1 win. Sophomore Nandita Krishnan and freshman Brooke Pottish dropped just one game en route to an 8-1 win over Alysia Rodgers and Shannon Lavery at first doubles. Junior Courtney Boger and freshman Lauren Fields then beat Joelle Nitzberg and Carla Cox at second, 8-5. And at third, junior Vanessa Charubhumi and sophomore Yoko Hirase took an 8-6 decision over Leigh Oczkowski and Sarah Woodward.
In singles play, Krishnan took a straight sets win over Rodgers, beating her 6-4, 6-2 at first. Sophomore Andrea Berlinghof won 6-3, 6-1 over Nitzberg at second. Hirase pulled out a three-set win at third over Lavery. She won the first set, 6-3, but Lavery took the second, 6-2, to force a third-set tiebreaker. Hirase took the tiebreaker, 10-4, to earn the win. Dickinson picked up its lone win at fourth as Woodward beat Charubhumi, 6-2, 7-5. At fifth, Pottish won 6-1, 6-3 over Nora Hanjnoczky. And at sixth, Fields earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Oczkowski.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, when Franklin & Marshall visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference tilt is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
