BALTIMORE, MD - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team ran its win streak to 10 with a 7-2 win over 23rd-ranked Mary Washington in non-conference tennis action Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 13-1 on the season, while the Eagles slip to 14-8. After losing their first nine meetings with the Eagles, the Blue Jays have now won three straight in the series.
Hopkins opened the match by sweeping all three doubles to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Freshman Hailey Hogan and sophomore Nandita Krishnan, the top-ranked doubles team in the Atlantic South, picked up an 8-3 win at first over Courtney Goimarac and Megan Lawlor. At second, senior Abby Dwyer and junior Carolyn Warren were 8-5 winners over Michelle Meadows and Lindsay Raulston. Junior Courtney Boger and freshman Abby Clark beat Cassie Bowman and Jocelyn Lewis, 8-5, at third.
In singles play, Hopkins won the top four flights en route to the 7-2 win. Warren did drop a game at first singles as she beat Goimarac, 6-0, 6-0 to earn her 50th career singles win. She is just the fourth player in program history to reach the mark. At second, Krishnan was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Lawlor, while Hogan won 6-1, 6-2 over Raulston at third. Sophomore Ariel Several prevailed in three sets at fourth as she rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win over Meadows. The Eagles picked up their two points with wins at fifth and sixth singles. Casey Malcolm was a three-set winner at fifth, as she beat Clark 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (4). And at sixth, Bowman won a tough 7-5, 7-5 decision over Dwyer.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 17 as the Blue Jays travel to Newark, DE to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens. The match is slated to start at noon. Hopkins then wraps up the regular season on Thursday, April 21 versus Gettysburg.
