BALTIMORE, MD - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shut out visiting Gettysburg, 9-0, to win its 50th straight Centennial Conference match and wrap up its fifth straight unbeaten conference season. The Blue Jays wrap up the regular season with a 14-2 overall record and a 10-0 mark in the Centennial. The Bullets fall to 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Hopkins opened up with a sweep of the doubles and lost just two games in the process. Freshman Abby Clark and junior Courtney Boger got things going with an 8-1 win at second over Meghan Fornshell and Laura Habecker. Freshman Hailey Hogan and sophomore Nandita Krishnan then beat Bev Keyes and Katie Taylor, 8-0, at first. Senior Abby Dwyer and freshman Brooke Pottish wrapped up doubles play with an 8-1 win at third over Holly Johnson and Kelly Webster.
In singles play, the Blue Jays won all six matches in straight sets to complete the sweep of the Bullets. Krishnan needed just 12 games to beat Taylor at first, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Ariel Several, Clark and junior Vanessa Charubhumi all turned the same trick at third, fourth and sixth singles respectively. At second, Hogan was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Habecker and Pottish won 6-1, 6-0 over Webster at fifth.
Hopkins, which 50 match conference win streak is a Centennial Conference record, is now idle until next weekend's Centennial Conference Tournament. The top-seeded Blue Jays will host a semifinal match on Saturday, April 30 and the finals on Sunday, May 1. Times and match ups will be announced Monday afternoon.
