BALTIMORE, MD - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team blanked visiting and fourth-seeded Muhlenberg, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 15-2 on the season as they advance to the conference title match for the fifth straight year, while the Mules fall to 10-6.
Hopkins swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead in the match. Senior Abby Dwyer and junior Carolyn Warren did not drop a game en route to an 8-0 win over Lindsay Schmidt and Danielle Winston at second. Freshman Hailey Hogan and sophomore Nandita Krishnan then beat Caitie Druker and Sara Sutker, 8-2, at first to put the Blue Jays on top 2-0. Junior Courtney Boger and freshman Abby Clark wrapped up doubles play with an 8-6 win over Gabriela Contino and Nina Sanders at third.
The Blue Jays picked up two quick singles points, at first and second, to clinch the match. Krishnan pushed Hopkins lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at second singles over Sutker. Warren followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at first over Druker to close out the win.
Top-seeded Hopkins will host second-seeded Washington College in the Centennial Conference Final on Sunday, May 1 in Baltimore. The match is slated to begin at 3:00 pm. The Blue Jays are seeking an unprecedented fifth consecutive Centennial Conference title.
