BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins field hockey team exploded for five goals in the second half to roll past Eastern Mennonite, 8-2, Friday night at Homewood Field. Senior Liane Tellier tallied two goals and an assist, while junior Storm Kodde notched three assists.

Hopkins outshot Eastern Mennonite by a wide margin, 38-9, as goalkeeper Sam Ferrier made 20 saves in net for the Royals.

The Blue Jays controlled play from the outset and scored 90 seconds into the match as Tellier found Maggie Phillips at the top of the circle. Hopkins then doubled its lead three minutes later when Meghan Kellett knocked home a pass from Alexa Lantiere.

Eastern Mennonite answered back with a goal of its own 9:20 into the first half, but Lantiere and Kellett hooked up again to put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-1. The Royals battled back, however, as Melissa Cox scored at 26:35 to pull within one goal of Hopkins.

Tellier started the goal onslaught for the Blue Jays in the second half, drawing Ferrier out of net for an easy goal. Three minutes later, Hopkins was the beneficiary of a shot that tipped off a Royal defender for an own goal.

Tellier, who had six shots on the night, added another goal at 51:55, while Allison Thompson and Miceile Barrett scored their first career collegiate goals to complete Hopkins' second half shutout.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Peijnenburg was relatively untested in net thanks to her team's offensive play, but made five saves in the effort.

The Blue Jays return to action on Sunday in Lexington, VA for a match with Washington & Lee.
