COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team lost just 15 total games en route to a 9-0 win over host Ursinus on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. Hopkins wins its fifth straight to improve to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Bears meanwhile, fall to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Hopkins opened the match with a pair of 8-1 wins in doubles to take the early 2-0 lead. Freshman Sydney Lehman and sophomore Kaitlyn Pfisterer defeated Heather McMasters and Jessica Tyrrell, 8-1, at first. And senior Ariel Several and sophomore Shannon Libaw won by the same score at third over Renee Tornea and Audrey Whitebloom. Junior Lauren Fields and freshman Olivia Kasten finished with an 8-3 defeat of BreAnna Bashaw and StephanieJane Seabra at second.
The Blue Jays claimed each of the six singles matches in straight sets to close out the match. Lehman picked up her team-best 10th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Whitebloom at first. Libaw was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at second over Tyrrell. At third, Pfisterer beat Bashaw by a 6-1, 6-3 score. Several earned her 35th career win as she defeated Seabra 6-1, 6-0. That moves her into a tie for ninth place in school history for career singles wins. Fields beat Caroline Lippe at fifth by a 6-0, 6-1 score. And Kasten defeated Deborah Choi 6-1, 6-1 at sixth.
Hopkins is back in action on Sunday, April 7 as the Blue Jays host the Haverford Fords in a matchup of two undefeated Centennial teams. The match is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
