GLASSBORO, NJ – The Johns Hopkins men's swim team grabbed eight wins in a 150-112 win over host Rowan on Saturday morning. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 2-0-1. Junior Evan Holder and sophomore Kyle Otazu led Hopkins with two individual wins apiece.
Hopkins opened the day with second and third place finishes in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Darren Loh, junior Scott Sterrett, sophomore Mark Wilson and junior Jeremy Bauchwitz finished in 1:35.40 for second place. Following in third place were sophomore Jan Hagemeister, freshmen Emile Kuyl and Michael Wohl and sophomore Michael Ashmead with a time of 1:36.65. The Blue Jays then swept the top three spots in the 1000 Free and grabbed 16 points to take over the lead. Freshman Erik Bostrom touched first in 9:57.41, followed by seniors Mickey McGoldrick (9:59.85) and Billy Gravley (10:00.06).
Otazu earned his first win, taking the top spot in the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.99. Freshman John Chu claimed third place as he touched in 1:45.04. Hagemeister and Loh then took first and second in the 100 Back in 53.15 and 53.29, respectively. Holder grabbed his first win, beating Tyler Coe to the wall with a time of 57.71 to win the 100 Breast by seven-hundredths of a second. Wilson followed with a second-place finish in the 200 Fly (1:55.51) while Otazu placed third in 2:01.26.
Bauchwitz took second place in the 50 Free as he clocked in at 21.60, followed closely by Ashmead in third place (21.78). Holder then placed second in the 100 Free with a time of 47.45. Loh grabbed a win in the 200 Back, touching in 1:56.11, while sophomore Andrew Gibson placed third in 1:57.98. Sterrett followed with a win, beating the field in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:10.07. Otazu earned his second win as he took the top spot in the 500 Free in 4:42.52 while Gravley placed second in 4:54.87.
Wilson then took second in the 100 Fly, finishing in 51.44. Holder grabbed his second win, clocking in at 1:54.12 to win the 200 IM. Loh followed in second place with a time of 1:58.45 and sophomore Austin Wilson placed third in 2:01.28. The Blue Jays closed out the meet with second and third place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. Ashmead, Bauchwitz, Otazu and Holder finished in 3:10.88 for second. Taking third place were sophomore Davis Knox, Chu, sophomore Luke Johnson and junior Patrick Flynn with a time of 3:14.43.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, November 13 as the Blue Jays travel to Lancaster, PA to take on the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats.
