How it Happened:

Williams went seven innings on the hill scattering just four hits and striking out seven, while Backlund tossed six innings giving up just two hits and striking out seven Blue Jays. Backlund retired the last 14 Hopkins batters he faced.
- After Backlund came out of the game Ryan Orgielewicz got his first hit of the season, a two-run home run to left centerfield to give Hopkins a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh.
- Preston Betz replaced Williams in the top of the eighth and recorded a six-out save to clinch the win for the Jays.
- JHU tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth after Alex Darwiche led the inning off with a triple and scored on a single from Brian Lin.

Other JHU Highlights:
- The Blue Jays turned a beautiful 5-4-3 double play, their first of the season, in the top of the sixth.
- With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fifth, Williams got Alvernia's three-hitter, Cameron Coons, to strike out and keep the scoreless tie in tact.
- Williams and Betz combined to allow just five hits and walked just two Crusaders. This came a day after the JHU pitching staff combined to give up 17 hits and five walks against SUNY New Paltz.
