The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team rallied back from deficits of three runs and one run in the ninth and 10th innings, respectively, to hand Amherst its first loss of the season. The three-run comeback in the bottom of the ninth came with two outs as Ryan Orgielewicz, Tommy Mee, Conor Reynolds and Brian Lin recorded four hits in a row. The Blue Jays rallied from a 7-6 deficit in the bottom of the 10th, as well, scoring the tying on an RBI walk from David Mampre and winning the game on an RBI fielder's choice from Mee who just beat a throw to first base to avoid an inning-ending double play.
How it Happened:
- Hopkins scored first for the third straight game when Reynolds led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a sac fly from Lin.
- Amherst scored their first two runs of the game in the top of the second and added a third in the top of the third inning on a home run from Yanni Thanopoulous.
- The Blue Jays tied the game at three with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning. Reynolds again led things off with an extra base hit and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Daniel Albert. Raul Shah also had an RBI base knock later in the inning.
- Amherst scored on its fourth run of the game in the fifth and two more in the seventh. The runs in the seventh were scored on a passed ball and an RBI single from Anthony Spina.
- With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the ninth Orgielewicz got things going with a single. Mee followed it up with a single of his own and Reynolds hit his second double of the game to make the score 6-5. Reynolds came around to score one pitch later when Lin crushed a pitch down the left field line for an RBI double.
- Amherst regained the lead in the top of the 10th, but it was short lived. Albert led off the bottom of the 10th with his third hit of the game, a single, and TJ Gordon came in to pinch run for him. Shah and Mike Smith were then hit by pitches to load the bases with just one out. JHU Head Coach Bob Babb then sent Mampre to the plate. The senior drew a walk to tie the game before Mee beat a throw to first to plate Shah and win the game.
Other JHU Highlights:
- Hopkins pitchers walked just one batter today, it was their only walk in the last 28.2 innings.
- JHU starter Nick Burns struck out six hitters in 4.2 innings of work.
- Reynolds made a pair of tremendous plays at shortstop in the top of the ninth to keep the Amherst lead at three runs.
- The Jays led off four different innings with an extra base hit and three times that runner came around to score.

Mee's Take: "Our energy was great the last two innings, even when we were losing. This win says a lot about our team and how we build off each other's fight and heart. We know we have capable hitters throughout the lineup and I'm confident everyone on this team can get the job done when they step up to the plate." -Tommy Mee
Up Next: The Blue Jays will look to extend their winning streak to five tomorrow at 12pm against Plymouth St.
