FREDERICKSBURG, VA – The 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team got back in the win column on Sunday with an 8-1 win over 17th-ranked Skidmore. The Blue Jays, who were facing their sixth-straight ranked opponent, improve to 4-2 on the season.
Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins at second and third. Sophomore Megumi Chen and freshman Kimberly Zou won 8-2 at second over Alexa Goldberg and Brianna Greene. Sophomore Caroline Greydak and senior Olivia Kasten beat Zoe Chodak and Laura Swenson, 8-5, at third. The Thoroughbreds picked up their lone point when Madie Benn and Michelle Fuca defeated juniors Amanda Austi and Ashnaa Rao, 8-5, at first.
In singles, the Blue Jays swept all six matches, four of them in straight sets, to secure the win. Rao won at first, beating Benn 6-1, 7-6 (3) while Chen won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over Greene at second. Sophomore Sunaina Vohra also won in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 at third over Fuca. Greydak lost just three games in her win at fourth over Erica Meno 6-3, 6-0. At fifth, Zou won 7-6 (3), 6-2 over Chodak and classmate Chrissy Simon needed just 12 games to beat Caroline Hobbs at sixth.
Hopkins returns to the court on Saturday, March 26 as the Blue Jays travel to Haverford to take on the Fords in both teams' conference opener. The match is slated for a Noon start.
