Caroline Greydak clinched the win for the Blue Jays.
BALTIMORE, MD – In a battle of the last two unbeaten teams in the Centennial Conference, 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat 40th-ranked Washington College, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference while snapping a two-game losing streak against ranked opponents. The Shorewomen slip to 10-3 on the season, including 6-1 in the Centennial.
Hopkins won at first and third doubles to take an early 2-1 lead on visiting Washington College. Juniors Mikey Barthelmass and Ashnaa Rao won 8-3 at first over April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre. Junior Anna Kankanala and senior Olivia Kasten beat Krista Filiopoulos and MP Hubert, 8-4, at third. Julia Lazer and Rachel Martinez grabbed a point for the Shorewomen when they defeated sophomore Megumi Chen and freshman Kimberly Zou, 8-6, at second.
Chen won in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 10-5) at first, beating Weaver, the 14th-ranked player in the region. Sophomore Sunaina Vohra won in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lazer at second. Sophomore Caroline Greydak clinched the win as she beat Martinez 7-5, 6-1 at third. Zou also won in straight sets, defeating Filiopoulos 6-1, 6-4 at fourth. Kankanala prevailed in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) at fifth over Hubert and freshman Chrissy Simon lost just one game in a win over Kiran Pant (6-0, 6-1) at sixth.
Hopkins returns to the court on Wednesday, April 20 with a pair of matches. Hopkins hosts 13th-ranked Washington & Lee and will also send a squad to Westminster to take on McDaniel.
