Box Score Sept. 18, 2016 Box Score
The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins-2, Goucher-1 (OT)
• Records: JHU (4-1) • GC (3-4)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: Senior Lindsay Adams scored with 2:01 remaining in the first overtime to give the Johns Hopkins field hockey team a 2-1 win over visiting Goucher Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 4-1 as they win in overtime for the second time in as many games.
How it Happened
• Goucher got on the board first, scoring just 9:46 into the game to take the early lead. Kristen Shklanko dribbled into the Hopkins circle and shot towards the right post, where Rachel Crain deflected it in.
• The lead was short-lived for the Gophers as the Blue Jays answered four minutes later. Junior Morgan Pothast fired a shot on the cage that senior Lindsay Adams tipped around goalie Megan Wells. Senior Victoria Piscopo ran up and batted the ball out of the air and into the cage.
• Hopkins would control much of the play from there, but it took overtime to decide this one. Adams ended the game when she intercepted the ball inside the Gophers' circle and lifted a shot into the top right corner to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 win.
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins is now 4-1 on the season, its best start since 2009. The Blue Jays have won back-to-back overtime games for the first time since that same season. Hopkins beat then 13th-ranked Gettysburg, 2-1, in a shootout on September 19. One week later, Hopkins won, also by a 2-1 score, at Swarthmore.
• The Blue Jays are 16-6-5 all-time against the Gophers, in the first meeting between the two since 2000. Hopkins has won five straight in the series.
• All four of Hopkins' wins have come by a 2-1 score.
