Johns Hopkins Goes Unbeaten at Haverford Invitational

? The Short Story: In the first dual-meet action of the season, the Johns Hopkins women's fencing team went 3-0 at Haverford's Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational on Saturday.

How it Happened
? Hopkins opened the day with a 22-5 win over William & Mary as the Blue Jays swept all three weapons. The Epee squad pulled out a 5-4 win with sophomore Shivani Bisen clinching the win in the sixth bout. She went 2-0 in the round, as did freshman Shaina Morris. In the Foil, junior Rebecca Rosenthal, sophomore Katherine Xiang and freshman Brooke Stanicki combined to go 9-0. And in the Sabre, sophomores Natalie Martinez and Alicja Tomaszewski each went 3-0 as the squad won 8-1.
? The Blue Jays followed with an easy win over the Mids and a three-weapon sweep. Bisen won all three of her bouts to lead the Epee squad (7-2). The Foil squad once again went 9-0, paced by Rosenthal, Xiang and Stanicki. Martinez and sophomore Erin Chen each went unbeaten to lead the Sabre squad (8-1).
? Hopkins closed out the day with a tougher contest against host Haverford. The Blue Jays lost a close one in the Epee (4-5), with Morris winning all three of her bouts. The Foil squad picked up a 7-2 win, led by Stanicki's three wins. And the Sabre squad earned a 6-3 win with Chen going unbeaten (3-0).

What it Means
? Hopkins improves to 4-3 against William & Mary, having won three straight in the series. JHU is now 5-11 against Navy and has won four straight. Hopkins won its 15th straight against Haverford and is now 27-6 all-time against the Fords.
? Chen moved into sixth place on the all-time Sabre wins list with 141. Xiang is now 10th in career Foil wins with 112.
