Josephine Chang has been named the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Women's Sabre Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. Freshmen
Nina Markovsky and
Nicole Wu were recognized as the Foil and Epee Newcomers of the Year, respectively.
A four-time USFCA All-American, Chang went 68-24 in her senior campaign and led the Blue Jay Sabre squad in wins for the fourth time. She ended her career with a 353-131 record, the second most wins in program history in the Sabre. Chang placed 13
th at the NCAA Regional Championship in her final event. She was recently named the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Woman of the Year.
Markovsky is the first Blue Jay to earn USFCA Foil Newcomer of the Year honors. She went 75-28 this season and earned First Team USFCA All-America honors. She ranked second on the JHU Foil squad in wins and placed 14
th at the NCAA Regional Championship. Markovsky's 75 wins this season are the fourth most by a freshman in the Foil in school history.
Yu becomes the first Johns Hopkins fencer to earn USFCA Epee Newcomer of the Year honors. She earned Second Team USFCA All-America honors after going 75-27. She led the Epee squad with her 75 wins, which are the third most by a freshman in the Epee in program history. Yu placed third at the NIWFA Championship and then 16
th at the NCAA Regional Championship.
