BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins senior Josephine Chang has been named the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC) Woman of the Year for the second straight year. The award, which was implemented to recognize the fencer who best combines the triple standards of success in athletics, excellence in academics, and participation in extracurricular activities, is decided through a postseason vote of the EWFC's head coaches.
Chang's selection as the EWFC Woman of the Year is the fourth for Johns Hopkins. She is majoring in neuroscience and boasts a 3.95 cumulative GPA.
Chang finished her career ranked second in program history in career wins, among all weapons, with 353. She posted an impressive 353-131 (.729) record in her standout career. She earned USFCA All-America honors four times, including three first team selections. Chang was also a two-time EWFC Sabre Fencer of the Year and a three-time First Team All-EWFC honoree. She led the Blue Jay Sabre squad with 68 wins this season and led the squad in wins in each of her four seasons.
Chang has been a researcher in the lab of Dr. Nauen, a neuropathologist at Johns Hopkins for the last three years. She has also worked as a student researched in the Multi-modal Imaging, Neuroinformatics & Data Science at the Yale School of Medicine. In addition, Chang was a software and research intern at ViviScout in the summer of 2024.
