How it Happened
•
Tim Kutcher led off the bottom of the first with a double to right field which was followed by a bunt single by
Zach Jaffe. Jaffe then caught the Royals defense sleeping and took second on the play to put two runners in scoring position.
Chris DeGiacomo then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Kutcher and put Hopkins up 1-0. Bethel starting pitcher Michael Bohlke was able to retire the next Blue Jay batters to escape the inning.
• Bo Lovdahl and John Leach hit back-to-back singles to begin the second, however,
Josh Hejka got John Horner to ground into a double play to put a runner on third with two outs and Michael Wesner singled to right to tie the game.
• Hopkins added four runs in the second off Bohlke. Kutcher doubled to right to score
Mike Eberle and
Dillon Bowman. Jaffe singled home
Frank Clara and
Alex Darwiche followed with a sacrifice fly to score Kutcher and cap the four-run inning that gave Hopkins a 5-1 lead.
• The Royals got two runs back in the fourth on a Michael Wesner home run to left center to make the score 5-3.
• Bethel tied the game in the fifth on an Austin Ledin double and a Bo Lovdahl single to center.
•
Jack Bunting, who came in relief in the sixth, did not allow a run until the top of twelfth when Austin Ledin homered left to give Bethel a 6-5 lead.
