• The Short Story: Johns Hopkins held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth, but the Swarthmore Garnet scored three times in the frame to take game one of the doubleheader 3-2.
How it Happened
• The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the second inning as
Alex Darwiche singled to center with one out.
Chris Festa followed with a single advancing Darwiche to second.
Frank Clara then singled to left to score Darwiche and give JHU a 1-0 lead.

Alex Ross struck out Jackson Roberts to lead off the second, however, Jared Gillen doubled left to put the tying run in scoring position with one out. Gillen was left stranded as Ross got the next two batters out on a fielder's choice and a strikeout.

Dillon Bowman hit his second home run of the season in the top of the fifth as he took the Sawyer Lake pitch over the leftfield wall to give Hopkins a 2-0 advantage.
• The Garnet got runners on in the sixth to force Ross out of the game with one out.
Josh Hejka came out of the pen and retired the next two batters to keep JHU in the lead. The inning ended with a well-executed pickoff as Bowman threw home to get the Garnet runner trying to steal home.
• Four straight hits with one out in the bottom of the eighth plated three Garnet players to give Swarthmore a one-run lead. Hejka picked off Holden Bridge to end the inning and keep the Blue Jays to within one heading into the top of the ninth.
• Jack Corkery came in and retired JHU in order as Swarthmore took game one by a 3-2 score.

• Ross went 5.1 innings allowing just two hits and no runs. He struck out five and walked four. Hejka went the remaining 2.2 innings allowing three runs (two earned) with one walk and four strikeouts.
• Darwiche led Hopkins with two hits in the first game.
GAME TWO

• The Short Story: The JHU bats came alive in game two as the Blue Jays pounded out 11 hits and scored ten runs as Hopkins took game two of the doubleheader by a score of 10-6.
How it Happened
•
Tim Kutcher singled and stole second to open the game and advanced to third on a
Mike Eberle single. A
Mike Smith groundout scored Kutcher and gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead.
• The Garnet got a two-out rally going in the bottom of the frame with back-to-back singles off of
Preston Betz, however, Betz got a fielder's choice to get out of the inning.
• Swarthmore tied the game in the second on an error and with runners on the corners, Betz once again escaped a jam with a groundout to keep the game tied at one.

Zach Jaffe led off the fourth with a double to left and
Chris Festa followed with a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and
Dillon Bowman knocked in Jaffe with a sacrifice fly to left. Festa advanced to third on the play and after a walk to
Austin Sacks, Kutcher came up and knocked in Festa with a groundout.
Chris DeGiacomo then crushed the Conti pitch all the way to the wall in right for an RBI triple as JHU took a 4-1 lead.
• A double and hit by pitch to start the Garnet fourth chased Betz, and
Jake Griffin came in and gave up a single and another hit by pitch, which forced in a run to make the score 4-2.
Nick Burns entered with the bases loaded and no outs and promptly struck out the first batter he faced and got a double play ball to end the inning and keep the JHU lead at two runs.
• Hopkins loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs and a walk by Eberle forced in Sacks to make the score 5-2. Smith followed with an RBI single to put the Blue Jays up 6-2. Jaffe hit a fly ball to center for a sacrifice fly and
Colby Wilson came up with a big pinch-hit two-RBI single to put Hopkins ahead by a score of 9-2.
• The Garnet got two runs in the bottom of the inning to get to within 9-4.
• DeGiacomo put the Blue Jays ahead 10-4 with an RBI groundout in the seventh to plate Bowman.
• Swarthmore took advantage of a Hopkins miscue in the field to plate another run and get to within five runs in the seventh.
• The Garnet added another run in the eighth on an RBI double, but Swarthmore would get no closer than the 10-6 score as
Nick Bodner and
John Donohue combined to finish the ninth inning without allowing a run.

• DeGiacomo and Sacks each had two hits in the game as eight different Blue Jays registered a hit in the game.
• DeGiacomo, Smith and Wilson all had two RBI in the game.
• Betz went the game's first three innings and allowed four hits and two runs (one earned). Burns pitched 2.2 innings allowing three hits and two runs with one walk and two strikeouts.
Jack Bunting went two innings allowing four hits with two runs (one earned) with one walk and three strikeouts. Bodner and Donohue finished the game allowing no hits.
