• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won a pair of matches on Saturday and remains undefeated in Centennial Conference play.
How it Happened • Ursinus
• Hopkins lost just six games in doubles en route to a quick 3-0 lead over Ursinus. Freshman Anjie Kashyap and sophomore Sophia Strickland won 8-1 over Aileen BeVard and Ashley Nguyen at first doubles.
• Freshman Sabrina Abrams and sophomore Prerna Singh won by the same score at third over Summer Burkholder and Maddie Sorebo. Freshman Margo Gerke and junior Chrissy Simon closed out doubles with an 8-4 win over Ariel Danziger and Madisen Harvey at second.
• Junior Kimberly Zou and Gerke did not lose a game in their wins at first and fourth singles over BeVard and Harvey, respectively.
• Simon clinched the win for the Blue Jays when she beat Danziger 6-0, 6-2 at third. Freshman Dhanya Asokumar followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Nguyen at second. With the match decided, Abrams and Singh played eight-game pro sets at fifth and sixth singles. Abrams did not drop a game in her win over Burkholder. Singh pulled out a hard-fought 9-7 win over Sorebo.
How it Happened • Christopher Newport
• Hopkins grabbed a 3-0 lead over visiting CNU by sweeping the doubles matches. Kashyap and Strickland picked up their second win of the day with an 8-2 victory over Alexandra Drye and Johanna Ranta-aho at first.
• Asokumar and Zou beat Kara Ferner and Kate Huck, 8-5, at second. Junior Katie Gauch and Gerke earned an 8-6 win over Emily Morgan and Isabelle Wessel at third.
• Strickland was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at second singles over Huck. Simon then secured the victory when she beat Drye 6-3, 6-2. Zou grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Claire Dockrill at third.
• Asokumar and Gerke both came from behind to earn wins at fourth and sixth singles. Asokumar defeated Wessel 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (5) and Gerke beat Meili Konell 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4). Ranta-aho picked up the Captains' lone point of the match with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (1) win over Kashyap at first singles.
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 22-2 all-time against Ursinus with its 20th straight win. In addition, JHU is now 2-0 against Christopher Newport.
• The Blue Jays win over the Captains is their first over a ranked opponent since a 5-4 win at sixth-ranked Tufts on May 14, 2017.
