Johns Hopkins Grabs Centennial Conference Regular Season Title

- The Short Story: In a battle of conference unbeaten, the 23rd-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat visiting Swarthmore, 8-1, on Friday afternoon to earn the Centennial Conference regular season title.

How it Happened
- Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after doubles with wins at first and second. Freshman Anjie Kashyap and sophomore Sophia Strickland earned an 8-3 defeat of Emma Kassan and Anna Scheibmeir at first.
- Freshman Dhanya Asokumar and junior Kimberly Zou followed with an 8-5 victory at second over Julia Gokhberg and Shirline Wee. Rachel Bronkema and Arya Jemal earned what turned out to be Swarthmore's only point of the match when they beat junior Katie Gauch and freshman Margo Gerke in a tightly contested 9-8 match at third.
- The Blue Jays then swept the singles matches, with five of those wins coming in straight sets, to finish the conference slate unbeaten. Kashyap picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kassan at first in a meeting of two regionally ranked players. At second, Strickland was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Wee. Zou dropped just two games as she beat Scheibmeir 6-0, 6-2 at third.
- Asokumar clinched the win for the Blue Jays as she defeated Jemal 6-3, 6-2 at fourth. Gauch rallied to defeat Vivien Fernandez 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9) at fifth. Junior Chrissy Simon beat Elise Talley 6-3, 6-4 at sixth.

What it Means
- Hopkins improves to 27-18 all-time against Swarthmore and has now won 18 straight in the series.
- The Blue Jays finish the regular season unbeaten in conference play for the 12th straight year and has won 120 straight regular season conference matches. Hopkins earns the top seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament and the right to host.
- Zou earned her 37th career doubles win and is now tied for 19th in school history. She also has 76 combined wins in her career (singles and doubles), which is tied for 17th best in school history.

- Hopkins will host the 2018 Centennial Conference Tournament at the JHU Tennis Courts on May 5 and 6. The final match-ups will be determined with the conclusion of conference play on Saturday.
