• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Thursday, blanking McDaniel, 9-0, and then falling at Division I Towson, 5-0.
How it Happened • McDaniel
• Hopkins did not drop a game en route to the win in Westminster Thursday afternoon. Junior Kimberly Zou and freshman Dhanya Asokumar beat Maddy Simmons and Lindsay Russell at first.
• Sophomore Sophia Strickland and freshman Margo Gerke were winners at second over Brenna Gutshall and Laura Penhallegan. And at third, sophomore Prerna Singh and freshman Sabrina Abrams beat Rohini Dhara and CeCe Galovic.
• In singles, Strickland defeated Simmons at first 6-0, 6-0 and Zou then clinched the Blue Jays' win as she beat Russell at second by the same score.
• Asokumar won 6-0, 6-0 over Gutshall at third. With the match decided, the final three matches were played as eight-game pro sets. Gerke defeated Penhallegan at fourth, 8-0. Adams won by the same score over Dhara at fifth and Singh did the same at sixth over Galovic.
How it Happened • Towson
• The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the match by grabbing two of the three doubles matches. Renate Van Oorschodt and Lucy Williams earned a 6-0 win over Strickland and freshman Anjie Kashyap at first.
• AJ Gomer and Yevgeniya Shusterman then secured the doubles point as they beat Asokumar and Zou, 6-1, at second. Junior Katie Gauch and Gerke earned a win as the pair beat Barbora Vasilkova and Lucy Gloninger at third.
• In singles, the Tigers won four of the six matches before the match was halted when the lights went out. Shusterman beat Zou 6-3, 6-1 at third and Vasilkova followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Asokumar at fourth.
• At fifth, Alexa Martinez won 6-2, 6-2 against Gauch to secure the win for the Tigers. Gomer then defeated Strickland 7-6, 6-3 at second.
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 28-4 all-time against McDaniel and has won 18 straight in the series. The Blue Jays have posted 16 consecutive shutouts against the Green Terror.
• JHU runs its Centennial Conference win streak to 113, dating back to March 17, 2007.
• The Blue Jays fall to 4-9 all-time against the Tigers with Towson winning the last three meetings. This was the first meeting between the two since September 29, 1987.
