• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team got eight RBI from its 7-9 batters as the Blue Jays defeated Catholic, 11-3 in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.
How it Happened
• Catholic scored all of its runs in the first inning off Hopkins starter
David Glass. Glass settled down and was able to get out of the inning allowing just the three runs.
• Back-to-back singles to lead off the second put the Cardinals in business again but Glass got a double play ball to put a runner on third with two outs. That's when
Tim Kutcher made an incredible catch to rob Brennan Cotter of a two-run home run as Kutcher went over the wall to snag the ball and end the inning.
•
Alex Darwiche and
Mike Eberle led off the second with singles and a single from
Austin Sacks loaded the bases for
Dillon Bowman who hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Darwiche.
Bradley Martin followed with a single to center to plate Eberle and bring the Blue Jays to within one run.
•
Jonah Offman came into the game with a runner on second and no outs in the third, and after the runner advanced to third on a wild pitch, Offman retired the next three batters to keep the score 3-2.
• The Blue Jays exploded for six runs on two hits in the third inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Mike Smith walked in a run and Sacks plated two with a single. Bowman notched another RBI with a single to right while Martin knocked in Sacks with a sacrifice fly. Bowman came in to score on a wild pitch for the sixth JHU run of the inning.
• Hopkins made it 10-3 in the fourth as Eberle beat out an infield single to score
Chris DeGiacomo and
Zach Jaffe scored on a Sacks fielder's choice.
• Another Bowman RBI single in the eighth put JHU up 11-3 as the Blue Jays went onto close out the ninth and take the game by the 11-3 score.
