BALTIMORE, MD – On the heels of winning its second straight Centennial Conference Championship, the sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team will host the second and third rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament at Homewood Field this weekend. The Blue Jays are one of just four schools to host the second & third rounds.
Hopkins (17-2) is making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and eighth overall. The Blue Jays advanced to the NCAA Semifinals last season for the first time in program history. Hopkins will host an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2008 and just the fourth time overall. JHU is 4-9 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, with two of those wins coming in 2018.
Hopkins, which earned a first-round bye, will take on the winner of Worcester State (18-4) and 11
th-ranked Messiah (16-4) on Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 am. Fourth-ranked Tufts (14-4) will take on the winner of Rochester (14-8) and Denison (16-3) in the other half of the Baltimore pod at 2:00 pm. The winners will square off at 1:00 pm on Homewood Field on Sunday, November 17. The weekend could feature two teams that Hopkins faced in last year's NCAA Tournament – Messiah and Tufts. JHU beat host Messiah, 3-2, in and then fell to Tufts, 4-1, in the national semifinals.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students, with ID, and senior citizens and are available for purchase at the gate. Children ages two and younger will be admitted free of charge. Gates will open one hour prior to start time on both days.
The winners of the four sites will advance to the semifinals and final at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, PA. Semifinals will be played at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 23, with the championship game set for 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 24.
