LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins swept the Centennial Conference Field Hockey Weekly Awards this week. Sophomore
Abby Birk was named the Offensive Player of the Week and junior
Seema Sajjan was honored as Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.
On Wednesday, Birk was named the Play Safe Turf & Track/NFHCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week. Birk is the first player in program history to earn national player of the week honors from the NFHCA.
Birk and Sajjan led Hopkins to a 2-0 week with wins at Gettysburg (6-1) and at home over sixth-ranked Franklin & Marshall (2-1). The Blue Jays went undefeated in Centennial Conference play (10-0) and will host the conference tournament next week at Homewood Field.
Birk opened the week with an assist in the win at Gettysburg. She then scored both goals in Hopkins' win over Franklin & Marshall as JHU secured the Centennial Conference regular season title. Sajjan anchored the Blue Jays' defense that held their opponents to a combined two goals. Hopkins held Franklin & Marshall, which averaged three goals per game, to just one. Sajjan is a key member of the Blue Jays' defensive corner unit.
Hopkins (15-2) returns to action on Friday, November 8 as the Blue Jays in the Centennial Conference semifinals. JHU will face the winner of the Bryn Mawr-Gettysburg at 4:00 pm at Homewood Field.
