Includes Game-by-Game & Season Stats)
BALTIMORE, MD – Former Johns Hopkins baseball standout
Josh Hejka has signed a minor league contract with the Kingsport Mets, the Rookie League affiliate of major league baseball's New York Mets. Hejka signed his contract on Thursday, June 27 and has already appeared in three games out of the bullpen.
Â
While a number of former Blue Jays have played in various professional independent leagues in recent years, Hejka is the first Johns Hopkins player to sign with an affiliate of a major league team since Andrew Pevsner was drafted in the 16
th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010 and spent two years in the team's minor league system.
Â
Hejka, who spent a majority of his career at Johns Hopkins as a relief pitcher before assuming a starting role in the final month of his career, has pitched 1.1 innings in his first three career appearances with the Mets and has allowed one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
Â
A Second Team All-Centennial Conference selection as a senior, Hejka was 12-5 with a 2.81 ERA and 138 strikeouts against just 31 walks in his career. His 74 career appearances, 25 appearances in 2019 and 15 career saves are all Johns Hopkins records. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Division III World Series as a senior after pitching 9.2 innings and throwing more than 150 pitches in a 10-inning 7-6 win over Babson in the Blue Jays' first game at the series.
Â
Hejka helped Johns Hopkins to a 37-13 record as a senior in 2019 with Centennial Conference, NCAA Regional and NCAA Super Regional titles. The Blue Jays placed third at the Division III World Series.
