Johns Hopkins Sweeps the Field at JHU Invitational

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team swept all five of its matches on Sunday at the annual JHU Invitational.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a 23-4 win over Haverford. Sophomore Cecilia Taylor and junior Rebecca Zhou each went 3-0 to lead the Sabre squad to an 8-1 win. Sophomore Miya Herman, junior Brooke Stanicki and freshman Alexandra McDonald combined for a 9-0 win by the Foil squad. And in the Epee, junior Shaina Morris, senior Shivani Bisen and freshman Alexandra Szewc each won two bouts.
• JHU followed with a 22-5 win over Rutgers. Taylor, senior Erin Chen and sophomore Cherlin Zhu led the Sabre squad to a 9-0 win. Freshman Delphine Tan and sophomore Erika Wong each won three bouts in the Foil squad's 8-1 win. Morris won all three of her bouts to lead the Epee squad to a close 5-4 win.
• The Blue Jays won by the same score over the Lafayette Leopards. The Sabre squad edged the Leopards, 5-4, behind three wins from Taylor. Herman and Stanicki then combined for six wins for the Foil squad (8-1). And the Epee squad went 9-0 thanks to Szewc, Bisen and freshman Rachel Zhang.
• Hopkins then beat Drew by the same 22-5 score. Zhu and senior Alicja Tomaszewski combined for six wins to lead the Sabre squad (8-1). Herman, McDonald and Wong swept the round for the Foil squad. The Epee squad picked up another close 5-4 win with Morris and Zhang each earning two wins.
• The Blue Jays wrapped up the day with a 27-0 win over the Midshipmen. Chen, Zhou and Tomaszewski combined for nine wins for the Sabre squad. Stanicki, Tan and Wong did the same in the Foil. And in the Epee, Szewc and Bisen led the way with three wins each.
