TEMPE, AZ – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its work in the classroom. Fourteen Blue Jays were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and the team earned All-Academic Team accolades.
Hopkins' 14 selections are tied for the most in the nation this season and are a school-record. JHU has now produced 151 ITA Scholar-Athletes since 2006 and has had at least 10 selections in 10 of the last 15 seasons. In addition, JHU has earned the ITA All-Academic Team distinction in each of the last 14 seasons.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year). The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
