The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team cruised to a 3-0 day at the 2021 D'Arnstein '09 Invitational Sunday at Haverford.

How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the day with a 23-4 win over host Haverford. The Sabre squad picked up a 6-3 win behind a 3-0 showing from sophomore
Jenny Song. The Epee squad earned a shutout as junior
Rachel Zhang and sophomores
Diya Kulkarni and
Maya Zhang combined for nine wins. Junior
Alex McDonald led the Foil squad to a 8-1 win as she won all three of her bouts.
• The Blue Jays then beat the Mids of Navy, 25-2. Song, senior
Cherlin Zhu and sophomore
Sanya Bawa combined for all nine Sabre wins. In the Epee, freshmen
Ameera Ebrahim and
Katelyn McShine each went 3-0 to lead the team to a 7-2 win. And in the Foil, McDonald, senior
Miya Herman and sophomore
Czarina Alfonso each went 3-0.
• Hopkins closed out the day with a 27-0 win over William & Mary. Song, Zhu and Bawa led the Sabre squad with a combined nine wins. In the Epee, it was
Maya Zhang, Rachael Zhang and junior
Zoe Readi-Brown leading the way with nine wins. And in the Foil, Alfonso and Herman led the squad with three wins apiece.

What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 35-6 all-time against Haverford and has 23 straight against the Fords. JHU is now 10-12 against Navy, having won nine straight over the Mids. And against William & Mary, Hopkins owns a 7-4 lead in the series and has won six straight.
• McDonald moved into a tie for 22
nd in school history with 87 career Foil wins. Herman needs just one win to move into a tie for 10
th place.
• Zhu moved to 12
th in school history and needs just two wins to reach 100 for her career.
