Birk, Brown-Scherer and Scott Garner All-America Honors

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins seniors Abby Birk and Maddie Brown-Scherer have earned First Team All-America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). In addition, Birk and junior Anna Scott garnered First Team All-America honors from SynapseSports, while Brown-Scherer garnered Third Team honors.
 
Hopkins has produced 20 NFHCA All-Americans since 1987, including seven under fifth-year head coach Jane Wells. This is the third straight season and fifth time overall that Hopkins has produced two NFHCA All-Americans in the same season. This is the first time in program history that JHU has had two First Team NFHCA All-Americans. In addition, 15 Blue Jays have earned All-America honors from SynapseSports, including eight in the last four seasons.
 
Birk, Brown-Scherer and Scott led Hopkins to its third straight Centennial Conference title and its first appearance in the national championship game. Hopkins turned in its first-ever undefeated regular season and set program records for wins (22) and consecutive wins (22).
 
Birk earns her second straight All-America honor after earning Third Team honors from the NFHCA and Second Team honors from SynapseSports. The NFHCA Region V Player of the Year, she finished second on the team in goals (11), assists (10) and points (32). Birk is the program's all-time assist leader with 34 career helpers and is also tied for fourth in JHU history in career points (92) and tied for eighth in goals (29).
 
Brown-Scherer garners her first career All-America honor after being named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. She finished with career-highs in goals (13), assists (11) and points (37). Brown-Scherer led the conference in points and was tied for first in assists. A two-time all-region and all-conference pick, she is tied for seventh in program history in career points (82), tied for eighth in goals (29) and tied for fourth in assists (24).
 
Scott earns All-America honors for the first time in her career and is the first Blue Jay defender to do since 2011. In her first year as a starter, she anchored a Blue Jay defense that led the nation with 14 shutouts and ranked fifth in goals against average (0.74). In addition, JHU allowed just 6.3 shots per game, including 3.5 shots on goal. Scott tallied four goals, four assists and a team-best four defensive saves in 2021.
