Peter Schaefer and
Jared deFaria combined to sweep the Centennial Conference Player of the Week awards it was announced today. This is the first time deFaria has earned Centennial Conference Player of the Week and the second straight Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Week honor for Schaefer.
deFaria led the Blue Jay offense in a doubleheader sweep of the Ursinus Bears this past weekend. deFaria totaled five hits at the plate, hitting a double, two singles and two home runs for Johns Hopkins. deFaria drove in five runs and crossed home plate five times.
In an 11-2 victory in game one, deFaria tied the game in the fifth with an RBI single and then extended the lead to five in the sixth with his first home run of the year. In game two, deFaria opened up the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. The Weston, FL product tacked on some insurance with his second homer of the day in the third inning.
For Schaefer, it was another dominant performance, earning him a second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor. The sophomore tossed eight innings, allowing just four hits and two runs to the Bears. Schaefer used 104 pitches to strike out a career-high 12 batters, the most in a contest for a Blue Jay pitcher since 2018.
The Blue Jays will head to Allentown, PA on Saturday as they take on Muhlenberg in the final weekend of the regular season.
