Johns Hopkins to Host NCAA Women's Tennis Regional

Blue Jays To Face Cairn Highlanders in Second Round

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team will host a five-team NCAA Regional this weekend at the JHU Tennis Courts. The Blue Jays are making their 14th straight NCAA Tournament appearance and will host a regional for just the second time. Hopkins earned a first-round bye and will play Cairn in the second round on Saturday, May 15.
 
The Johns Hopkins Regional
Hopkins (8-0) and Cairn (5-1) are two of the five teams that will compete in the Johns Hopkins Regional. Tufts (6-1), like Hopkins and Cairn, also received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the opening round-match between Endicott (9-0) and Nazareth (8-0). The winners of the two second-round matches will meet in the Sweet 16 on Sunday, May 16.
 
JHU's NCAA Tournament History
The Blue Jays have made every NCAA Tournament since 2007 and are 21-14 all-time in the tournament. Hopkins has won its opening match in the tournament in all 13 previous appearances and the Blue Jays are 12-1 all-time in the second round. Hopkins has made 12 trips to the Sweet 16 and four to the Elite Eight. The Blue Jays last hosted an NCAA Regional in 2011 and lost in the final to Tufts.
 
Series History
Hopkins and Cairn will meet for the first time and the teams had no common opponents in 2021. Of the four other teams in the JHU Regional, the Blue Jays have only played the Tufts Jumbos. Hopkins is 2-1 all-time against Tufts, including 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament.
 
What's Next
The winner of the Johns Hopkins Regional will take on the winner of the regional featuring Sewanee, Babson, SUNY New Paltz, Skidmore and North Central (IL) in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Monday, May 24. The NCAA Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Championship will take place at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, TN. Johns Hopkins has advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals four times (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017) with one semifinals appearance (2014).
