PHILADELPHIA, PA – The second-ranked Johns Hopkins women's fencing team opened the season at the annual Temple Open Saturday. Freshman
Josephine Chang led the Blue Jays with a sixth-place finish in the Sabre. Chang was one of five Blue Jays making their collegiate debut.
Chang went 7-1 in pool play and then advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to the top seed. She finished with a 10-2 record on the day. Her sixth-place finish (out of 76) is the highest by a freshman in the Sabre since
Erin Chen placed sixth at the 2016 Temple Open. Freshman
Adelaide Benoit finished in 37
th place, while junior
Sanya Bawa tied for 47
th. Benoit went 4-4 in pool play and then lost her first match in the elimination round. Bawa was 3-5 in pool play and also lost her first elimination bout.

Mickey Zhang led the Blue Jay Epee squad with a 31
st place finish, out of 79. She went 3-5 in pool play and then advanced to the round of 32 in the elimination portion She finished with a 4-6 record on the day. Junior
Maya Zhang placed 34
th, sophomore
Katelyn McShine placed 40
th and senior
Rachel Zhang took 54
th.

Maya Zhang went 6-2 in pool play, while McShine was 5-3 and
Rachel Zhang was 2-6.
Freshman
Bethany Lee led the Foil squad with a 35
th place finish, out of 77. She went 4-4 in pool play and then lost her first bout in the elimination round. Freshman
Rosy Cepero also went 4-4 in pool play and then dropped her first elimination bout. She finished in a tie for 43
rd overall.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, November 13 at the Vassar Invitational.
