Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule with a pair of dual meet wins Saturday. Hopkins beat NC Wesleyan, 8-1, in the morning and then defeated host Christopher Newport, 7-2, in the afternoon.
Hopkins jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles and then swept the singles matches to top NC Wesleyan. Sophomore

Sydney Langer gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead with an 8-0 win over Solomiia Badii and Julie Schoormans at second doubles. Sophomore

Lia Melvin then beat Bethan Fothergill and Ivanna Torres, 8-4, at third. The Biships picked up what turned out to be their lone point of the match at first doubles. Cristina Mendoza Romero and Ajla Selimovic won a tight 8-7 (5) match over graduate student

In singles, Kim cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Torres at third singles to put JHU up 3-1. Wong followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at first over Mendoza Romero and the Blue Jays led 4-1. Freshman
Samantha Wang then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Badii at second. Melvin beat Fotergill 6-1, 6-1 at fourth to push Hopkins' lead to 6-1. Freshman
Audrey Wijono then won at sixth when Linda Nhiwatiwa retired with the score 6-2, 2-3. Freshman
Aubrey Zhou closed out the match when she beat Selimovic 6-3, 6-1 at fifth.
In the second match of the day, Christopher Newport grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles but Hopkins responded by sweeping the singles matches to take the win. Xiao and Wang took the first point of the match with an 8-2 win over Megan Bauer and Kylie Schaefer at third doubles. The Captains answered with wins at second and first to go up 2-1. Mia Linam and Samantha Robertson beat Langer and Wong, 8-5, to tie the match. Tessa Trate and Raine Weis then won 8-7 (5) over Chang and Kim.
Xiao kick-started the comeback as she beat Robertson 6-3, 6-1 at fourth singles to knot the score at two. Wang then beat Kiersten Chang 6-2, 6-1 at fifth to give the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. Chang pushed the lead to two when she defeated Trate 6-0, 6-1 at second. Langer clinched the win for Hopkins with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Linam at third. Wong then rallied from a first set loss to beat Schaefer 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (8) and put the Blue Jays on top 6-2. Graduate student
Mary Beth Hurley then finished out the win as she also came from behind to beat Weis 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8) at first.
