PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team upset 15
th-ranked St. John's Sunday at the Temple Invitational. JHU faced a tough slate on Sunday that included five top-15 teams.
Hopkins kicked off the day with a 16-10 loss to 10
th-ranked Penn. Freshman
Josephine Chang won all three of her bouts to lead the Sabre squad to a 6-3 win. The Foil squad grabbed a 5-4 victory, led by senior
Delphine Tan and freshman
Rosy Cepero's combined four wins. The Quakers secured the win with a 9-0 win in the Epee.
Hopkins then fell to host and 11
th-ranked Temple, 16-11. The Sabre squad earned a 5-4 win with Chang and junior
Jenny Song winning two bouts each. Cepero won each of her three bouts in a tough 5-4 loss for the Foil squad. Sophomore

Mickey Zhang won one bout each in a 7-2 loss for the Epee squad.
The Blue Jays bounced back with a 17-10 win over the Red Storm. Chang won all three of her bouts to lead the Sabre squad to a 5-4 win. Tan, junior
Czarina Alfonso and freshman
Bethany Lee combined for a 9-0 win by the Foil squad. Junior
Diya Kulkarni won two bouts in a 6-3 loss for the Epee squad.
JHU lost to second-ranked Princeton, 25-2. Chang earned a win for the Sabre squad, while Alfonso did the same for the Foil squad.
Hopkins ended the day with a 16-11 loss to ninth-ranked Penn State. The Sabre squad lost 6-3. Lee and Alfonso won two bouts apiece in a tough 5-4 loss for the Foil squad. Zhang also won two bouts to lead the Epee squad in a close 5-4 loss.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 4 at the NIWFA Championships.
