BALTIMORE, MD- The Blue Jays landed two players on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week for the first time this season, it was announced this morning.
Matthew Cooper was selected as one of the outfielders on the team of the week and
Shawn Steuerer was in the third base spot in the team. Cooper has now been on the team of the week in back-to-back weeks, and it is the first time Steuerer has earned the honor this year.
Cooper had another superb week at the plate, putting together an 8-for-13 week (.615) with three homers and 10 RBI. The highlight of Cooper's week came in game two of the doubleheader with Muhlenberg when he smoked two homers to break John Christ's single season home run record that had stood since 1998. Cooper currently leads the conference in batting avg. (.504), home runs (19) and RBI (51). He paces the country in slugging percentage this season at 1.091. Cooper is also second in the country in home runs this season and is top five in batting average.
Steuerer was also phenomenal at the plate in four games for Johns Hopkins last week, batting .600 (9-for-15) with a couple of homers and nine RBI. Steuerer had multiple hits in in all four games, including a three-hit game against McDaniel where he drove in two runs. During the week, Steuerer homered in back-to-back games for the first time this season which brought his season home run total to nine, ranking second in the conference. Steuerer is second on the team in RBI with 36, which is third in the conference.
Johns Hopkins will play their final home game of the regular season on Saturday against Gettysburg with first pitch coming at 11 am.
