BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins baseball's Matthew Cooper and Shawn Steuerer have been tabbed D3Baseball.com preseason All-Americans, as released by the organization this morning. The Blue Jays are one of just four teams to have multiple preseason All-Americans, joined by East Texas Baptist, Lebanon Valley and Immaculata with two apiece.
 
Cooper was picked as a preseason First Team All-American following one of the most dominant seasons in program history a year ago. In his historic 2023 season, the graduate student tallied a program-record and nation-leading 25 home runs to pair with 83 hits, 17 doubles and 71 RBIs, the latter of which led the team and ranked fifth in the country.
 
Finishing with a slash line of .405/.496/.863 Cooper was named a 2023 D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings First Team All-American and Region V Player of the Year as well as the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. The Chalfont, PA native — who will also be serving as a captain for the upcoming season — already holds the program record for career homers and will look to separate himself from the pack even further in his final season.
 
Steuerer is also a preseason First Team selection, making Hopkins one of two schools with more than one First Teamer — East Texas Baptist is the other. The junior is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign in which he was a D3Baseball.com Second Team All-American as well as a D3Baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region V First Teamer.
 
The Wellington, Florida native finished his sophomore season slashing .402/.452/.721 with a team-high 88 hits, which was tied for third in the nation and the third most in a single season in program history. Steuerer was top-three on the team in doubles (16), home runs (16) and RBIs (70) and had more games with at least three hits (13) than hitless outings (11). Among the all-time lists, the junior sits in the top six in both career-batting average (.398) and home runs (25) and looks poised to continue his climb up the ranks.
 
The Jays' season kicks off in just over a month, with their first game of the year against Rutgers-Newark set for Friday, Feb. 23.
