Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Johns Hopkins wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday with wins over NC Wesleyan and host Christopher Newport. The Blue Jays shut out the Bishops, 7-0, in the morning and then beat the Captains, 6-1, in the afternoon. The win over NCW was the first at Johns Hopkins for first-year head coach
Michael Herman.
NC Wesleyan
Hopkins jumped out to a 1-0 lead on NCW as the Blue Jays swept the doubles matches to grab the first point.
Kamila Wong and
Ava Li beat Elisa Mariotti and Cristina Mendoza Romero, 6-1, at number one.
Jay Xiao and
Lia Melvin won 6-4 over Andrea Elaez Miranda and Melanie Guzman Gonzalez at two.
Catharina Ausfahl and
Sahana Madala then beat Bethan Fothergill and Ivana Torres, 6-2, at three.
In singles play, the Blue Jays swept the six matches in straight sets to complete the shutout.
Sahana Sanjeev took a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mariotti at number one.
Sydney Langer beat Mendoza Romero 7-5, 6-3 at two. Melvin and
Audrey Wijono dropped just one game each in their wins at numbers three and six.
Aubrey Zhou lost only two games, winning 6-1, 6-1 at four. And at number five, Madala did not lose a game in her win over Solomiia Badii.
Christopher Newport
In the afternoon, the Blue Jays earned the doubles' point with wins at number two and three. The Captains' Raine Weis and Kylie they beat Wong and Li, 6-2, at number one. Xiao and Melvin won 6-1 over Kendal Chang and Samantha Robertson. Madala and Langer then secured the doubles' point with a 6-1 win at three over Lindsey Bergelin and Eva Taylor.
Weis earned CNU's only point of the match as she won a close 7-5, 7-5 match at number one singles over Xiao. Li won 7-5, 6-2 over Mia Linam at two. Sanjeev needed just 13 games to win over Schaefer at three. Melvin was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at four versus Chang. Langer beat Robertson 6-3, 6-3 at five and Wong won 6-1, 6-4 at six over Taylor.
