NEW YORK, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's fencing team wrapped up the fall with wins over NJIT and Stevens at the Columbia Invitational on Friday. JHU also lost to third-ranked Columbia as the Blue Jays are now 8-3 on the season.
JHU kicked off the night with a 22-5 win over NJIT. The Sabre squad led the way with a 9-0 win, with
Josephine Chang,
Lauren Prieur and
Adele Dai combining for the shutout.
Julianna Wu won each of her three bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 7-2 win. And in the Epee, it was
Mariela Abramson with three wins leading the team to a 6-3 win.
Hopkins then beat Stevens, 21-6, once again sweeping the weapons.
Maya Balakumaran went 3-0 to lead the Sabre squad to a 7-2 victory. Wu once again led the Foil squad to victory (8-1) with three wins. Abramson,
Anika Kale and
Katelyn McShine won two bouts each as the Epee squad won 6-3.
The Blue Jays wrapped up the night with a tough 19-8 loss to the host Lions. Chang earned the Blue Jays' lone win in the Sabre, while
Rosy Cepero did the same in the Foil. Kale won each of her three bouts to lead the Epee squad to a 6-3 win.
Hopkins returns to action at the Philadelphia Invitational on January 17 and 18.
