Johns Hopkins Earns Two Ranked Wins at Beguinet Classic

DURHAM, NC – Johns Hopkins picked up three wins, including two over ranked opponents, on Saturday at the Beguinet Classic. The Blue Jays improve to 15-13 on the season.
 
Hopkins opened against host and sixth-ranked Duke, falling 21-6. Josephine Chang won two bouts in a 6-3 loss by the Sabre squad. In the Foil, Bethany Lee won one bout as the Blue Jays fell 8-1. And int eh Epee, Katelyn McShine and Ameera Ebrahim won once each in a 7-2 loss.
 
JHU rebounded with a 19-8 win over MIT, ranked number one in Division III and 15th overall. Chang, Lauren Prieur and Maddie Huang combined for a 9-0 win for the Sabre squad. Lee won all three of her bouts, including the clinching one, in a 5-4 win by the Foil squad. Anika Kale and Mariela Abramson won two bouts each, with Kale clinching a 5-4 win for the Epee squad.
 
The Blue Jays followed that with a 14-13 win over the NYU Violets, ranked second in Division III. Prieur won all three of her bouts and led the Sabre squad to a 7-2 win. Rosy Cepero went 3-0 and secured a 5-4 win in the Foil. Ebrahim and Kale won one bout each in a 7-2 loss in the Epee.
 
Hopkins then lost to Boston College, 15-12. Maya Balakumaran won each of her three bouts in a 7-2 win for the Sabre squad. Lee earned two wins in a 6-3 loss for the Foil squad. McShine won twice as the Epee squad lost 7-2.
 
Hopkins ended the day with a 17-10 win over Air Force. Chang won three bouts and secured a 5-4 win in the Sabre. Cepero also went 3-0 to lead the Foil squad to a 702 win. In the Epee, Abramson and McShine won two bouts each, with Abramson clinching the 5-4 win.
 
JHU returns to action on Sunday, February 16 at the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference Championship.
 
Notes: Prieur earned her 100th career win with her first win of the day • Lee now ranks 10th in JHU history with 168 career Foil wins • McShine ranks seventh with 158 career Epee wins.
