Box Score CLAREMONT, CA – Johns Hopkins junior Jay Xiao won their first two matches at the 2025 NCAA Singles Championship Saturday. In addition, junior Kamila Wong and freshman Ava Li dropped their first-round match in the doubles championship.

Xiao opened the day with an upset of seventh-seeded Sylwia Mikos of Chicago. They took the match in straight sets, winning 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16. They then pulled out a tough three-set win over Cal Lutheran's Carmen Bufkin, ranked 30th in the nation. Xiao took the first set 6-4, but Bufkin answered with a second-set tiebreaker 7-6 (3) to force a third set. Xiao prevailed in the deciding set, 6-4, to punch their ticket into the quarterfinals.

Xiao is the first Blue Jay to make the quarterfinals at the NCAA Singles Championship since 2011 and is just the second ever. They earn All-America honors with the first-round win. Xiao is the seventh Blue Jay to earn All-America honors in singles and the seven have combined for 10 selections. They will now take on 15th-ranked Jimena Mendez of New York University in the Sunday's quarterfinal.

Wong and Li squared off against seventh-ranked Izabele Antanavicius and Emily Kantrovitz of Emory. The Eagles' duo won a tight 7-5 first set before taking the second, 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinals. Li finishes her freshman season with 19 doubles wins, one shy of the Johns Hopkins' record for wins by a freshman.
