BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins junior
Sophia Baleeiro has been named the Denise O'Connor Foil Fencer of the Year by the Eastern Women's Fencing Conference (EWFC). Baleeiro also earned First Team All-EWFC honors and is joined on the all-conference team by
Adrianne Lin,
Camille Oteyza,
Julianne Wu and
Janie McSweeney. In addition,
Rosy Cepero has been named to the EWFC All-Academic Team.
Baleeiro went 12-0 at the EWFC Championships and helped the Blue Jays to win the Foil squad championship with an impressive 78-3 record. She is the first Blue Jay to earn Foil Fencer of the Year honors since 2020 and sixth overall. Joining Baleeiro on the First Team All-EWFC Foil Team are Lin and Oteyza. The pair also went unbeaten at the championship, as they each finished with a 12-0 record on the day.
McSweeney earned First Team All-EWFC Epee honors as she went 12-0 at the championship. Wu was named Second Team All-EWFC in the Foil after posting a 12-0 record in helping the Foil team to the squad championship. This is Wu's second career All-EWFC honor after grabbing first team accolades in 2024.
Cepero is majoring in molecular and cellular biology and boasts a 3.92 cumulative GPA. She went 10-2 in the Foil at this year's championship.
Hopkins has now produced 96 All-EWFC selections and 19 EWFC Fencers of the Year since joining the league in 2008. JHU has won 12 EWFC Three-Weapon Championships as well as 10 Foil squad, 10 Sabre squad and four Epee squad titles.
