CHAPEL HILL, NC –
Rosy Cepero broke the Johns Hopkins record for career Foil wins, and the Blue Jays won four of five matches at the Miller Invitational Sunday. JHU earned wins over Penn State, Brandeis, Air Force and NYU. Hopkins only loss came to second-ranked Notre Dame. The Blue Jays are now 23-4 on the season.
The Blue Jays opened the day with a 16-11 win over the 10
th-ranked Nittany Lions. Cepero won all three of her bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 6-3 win.
Anika Kale did the same in a 6-3 win for the Epee squad. And in the Sabre (4-5),
Josephine Chang led the Jays with two wins.
Hopkins then beat Brandeis, ranked fifth in Division III, 17-10. Chang and
Alexis Li won two bouts each to lead the Sabre squad in a 5-4 loss.
Nina Markovsky and
Thansi Garikipati each went 3-0 to lead the Foil and Epee squads to 6-3 wins.
JHU followed with a 19-8 win over Air Force, sweeping all three weapons. Li,
Maya Balakumaran and
Lauren Prieur combined for nine wins in the Sabre. Cepero and
Bethany Lee then won two bouts each and the Foil squad won 5-4.
Nicole Yu and
Mickey Zhang did the same in a 5-4 win for the Epee squad.
The Blue Jays dropped their only match of the day, falling 19-8 to the second-ranked Irish. Chang won two bouts to lead JHU in a 6-3 loss by the Sabre squad. Cepero and Lee combined for both Foil squad's wins. And in the Epee (3-6), Yu, Garikipati and
Mariela Abramson won one bout each.
Hopkins rebounded with a 16-11 win over NYU, the top-ranked team in Division III, to close out the day. Chang won two of her three bouts as the Sabre squad lost 6-3. Markovsky won each of her three bouts to lead the Foil squad to a 7-2 win. Cepero broke
Jackie Heath's career Foil wins record with the first of her two wins against NYU. Yu, Garikipati and Zhang won two bouts each to lead the Epee squad to a 6-3 win.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, February 15 at the 2026 EWFC Championships.
